2009 Gas for Glynn’s Project

March is traditionally National Awana Month, and Commanders are often looking for a meaningful project for their Awana clubbers during that time. Fund raising projects (PENNY DRIVES) in the past have helped your Awana missionaries purchase computers, office equipment, etc. We switch emphasis a few years ago.

Glynn’s are always on the road as they visit Awana Clubs and churches as well as meet with Pastors, Commanders and Awana leaders throughout Iowa. All of our travel expenses, including gas for the car, come out of our regular support. And when you drive 3-4 thousand miles a month with gas at $3.64 (Boone 9-18-08) per gallon it is a big draw.

We would like to offer the challenge to area clubbers and leaders to be a part of our 2009 Gas for Glynn’s Project to buy gas cards for our use. If every one of the 200+ Awana churches in Iowa bought just one pre-paid gas card, we might even be able to drive to your clubs! These gas cards can be purchased in various amounts at a local station.

To make a contest out of the project, here are some ideas:

1. String-a-leader - Everyone votes for the Commander, Director or leader they want to "string up" with Silly String. Each 25 cents brought is worth one vote. The two with the most votes get covered with Silly String.

2. Club vs. Club - See which club can bring in the most money.

3. Boys vs. Girls or Clubbers vs. Leaders or Color Team vs. Color Team - Use the same ideas as above.

4. Pie in the Eye Night - Everyone votes for the Commander, Director or leader they want to see get a pie in the eye! The leader with the most votes gets the pie. Each 25 cents is worth one vote.
